Mavic’s XA Pro Wheelset takes aluminum rims wider and lighter, using all their proven technology to get you a great wheel that improves trail riding beyond what you thought possible. The 25mm wide internal cavity is designed to make 1.8-2.5” (46-64mm) tires grip better and roll faster with less air pressure. The size and shape of the tire, and how much air pressure is behind it can dramatically change how your bike performs. The changed tire shape puts more tread on the ground. The increased air volume means that if you drop the pressure a little bit, you’ll get the tire to deform more easily without bottoming out The rims have the technology that Mavic employs to take aluminum beyond what most think possible. Maxtal aluminum alloy is used to fabricate the rim. Then it is joined via their SUP process, and milled to be as light as possible via their ISM (Inter Spoke Milling) program. Spoke nipple holes, rather than being drilled through the rim are only made on the hub side, leaving the rim side smooth. This is their FORE process. Stronger, a sealed cavity, and no need for tubeless tape. The wheels can be run tubed or tubeless. Mavic supplies tubeless valves with the wheels as most go tubeless and Mavic wants to improve the wheel wherever they can. Aluminum spoke nipples only go the inside rim wall and are secured to Mavic’s aluminum, double-butted, bladed, straight-pull Zicral spokes. The spokes, 24 front and rear, are laced cross-two in front to deal with the rotor-induced forces, while the rear has Mavic’s Isopulse lacing, radial on the drive side and cross-two on the rotor side. The hubs are set up with Mavic’s QRM+ sealed cartridge bearings. They come set up to run as 15mm thru-axles in front and 12mm through axles in the back. The cassette body is a SRAM/Shimano compatible eleven-speed body. These wheels are rated ASTM category three: appropriate for cross-country and trail riding.
